FAIR HOUSING
State and Federal Housing laws prohibit discrimination in the sale or rental of housing based on race, color, religion, national origin, family status, disability, sexual preference, source of income, or any arbitrary status.
If you believe you are a victim of unfair housing practices, we can help you. The City provides fair housing and landlord-tenant services through a contract with North County Lifeline. Their knowledgeable staff can evaluate your claim and help you understand your fair housing rights. North County Lifeline (http://www.nclifeline.org) is a non-profit organization that assists victims of housing discrimination and provides educational opportunities for residents of North County San Diego. Lifeline works with area organizations and residents to provide the following services:
1. Fair Housing Awareness and Education
2. Fair Housing Compliance training for owners and property managers
3. Direct tenant assistance with fair Housing Claim
4. Mediation or conciliation of Fair Housing Claims of Landlord-Tenant issues
Walk-in services are available at our satellite office in the North County Regional Center of the San Diego Superior Court at 325 South Melrose Drive in Vista, CA or you can call (760) 726-4900 ext. 321 or 226 for information or assistance. Services are offered in English, Spanish and American Sign Language.
If you have questions about Fair Housing, you can also contact a Fair Housing organization in your area or a housing counseling agency. The Fair Housing Resource Board (http://www.fhrb.net/) is a coalition of fair housing organizations, community based groups, concerned citizens, representatives of the housing industry, and government agencies working toward the goal of affirmatively furthering fair housing.
