ENCINITAS, CA - At the September 20, 2017 regular meeting, the Encinitas City Council unanimously adopted criteria to be used in drafting election district maps to be considered at future meetings. Council further adopted a deadline of Wednesday, October 18, 2017 for the submittal of maps. This deadline was established to allow sufficient time for technical analysis of the maps by the City’s demographer and to meet legal publishing requirements.
Maps published by October 4th will be considered by the City Council at the third public hearing on at Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 6:00PM, at City Hall, located at 505 South Vulcan Avenue. The public can provide input on these maps and the proposed sequence of elections. Criteria and map-drawing tools can be found here. Any maps received after October 4th will be considered by the City Council at a subsequent public hearing.
In an effort to provide the public additional information about the districting process and to provide instruction on the mapping tools available, the City has scheduled a workshop to be held at Cardiff Elementary School, 1888 Montgomery Avenue, on Saturday, October 7, 2017. This workshop will be an informal “open house” style and will run from 10:00AM until 2:00PM. The public is invited to drop by at any time during those hours. There will be work stations including information on the general process and schedule, a mapping demonstration by a demographer, and hands-on mapping workstations. Spanish translation will also be available.
